After discussing the direction of the production of the 1746 Commedia dell’Arte classic “The Servant of Two Masters” with the Lanes Coven Theater team, I researched the play, its history, and how it has been promoted in recent years. There were a few obvious challenges that needed to be addressed. The wince-worthy name being one and making it clear that this was a classic comedy being the other. The design needed to show that it will be a fresh adaptation deeply aligned with the Lanes Coven brand of whimsy and joy.
I had a clear idea in mind around “flipping the script” or “turning it on it’s head”. I offered up two options to get the conversation started and after receiving clear feedback from the LC team, I refocused the background images to represent the classic Commedia dell’Arte harlequin characters.
